About the Artwork
The Gift This Time Around is part of artist Morgan Brig's figurative sculptures created from copper and glass-enamel. She formed the figure by cutting, hammering, heating, and cooling copper sheet metal. She repeated this process until achieving her desired forms. She then baked enamel onto the copper using a torch, drawing imagery into the melted surface. She notes that this piece is "about the belief that we are all given a specific talent or gift for each lifetime that we live on earth. The palmistry imagery on the torso is to suggest how that gift is very unique and imprinted upon each of us in a comprehensive manner. It is the belief of the artist that it is up to each person to discover what their own gift is and to then use it to the best of their ability during their lifetime."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Medical Lake School District.
