About the Artwork
‘Strength in Pride’ is a vibrantly colorful painting by artist Jo Fyfe. The imagery is inspired early Native American photographers. A patchwork of geometric colors constructs the image. She notes that the central figure, flanked by eagles, illustrates “personal power, strength, and dignity.”
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Toppenish School District.
About the Artist
Jo Fyfe explores color, texture, and narrative using a variety of materials and found objects.Born in Omak, Northeastern Washington, non-Native artist Jo Fyfe's artworks are influenced by the heritage of Native American cultures of the interior Pacific Northwest. She earned a Master in Fine Arts degree from Washington State University in Pullman, Eastern Washington, and taught art for many years at Spokane Falls Community College. She is based in Spokane, Eastern Washington.
