About the Artwork

'Round Chinatown is part of a series of crayon drawings created by artist Michael Lindenmeyer. He uses crayons to celebrate humble materials, and to create vibrant night scenes with neon lights. He notes, "This particular scene shows N.W. Fourth Avenue in Portland's historic Chinatown district. The view is looking north towards Union Station in the background."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Department of Social and Health Services.

About the Artist

Michael Lindenmeyer is an Oregon and Olympia, Washington-based painter. He spent many summers in the 1980s in the Victorian seaport of Port Townsend, Washington where he rented a studio above the Town Tavern. His artworks tell mythic stories about the West Coast landscape and the consequences of industrialization.
