About the Artwork

Yakima Avenue is a drawing created by artist Michael Lindenmeyer. He based the imagery on his memories working in Yakima orchards during summer and fall. He notes, "The railroad was and to some extent still is a central fact in Yakima. The shipping of the region's produce takes place along these tracks. Yakima Avenue also has considerable authentic neon signage. I have taken some liberty in the placement of these within the composition, the better to create a complete statement in one painting."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Department of Social and Health Services.

About the Artist

Michael Lindenmeyer is an Oregon and Olympia, Washington-based painter. He spent many summers in the 1980s in the Victorian seaport of Port Townsend, Washington where he rented a studio above the Town Tavern. His artworks tell mythic stories about the West Coast landscape and the consequences of industrialization.
