About the Artwork
Laugh is part of artist Sally Sellers' series of quilts featuring house imagery. Sellers began the series after her young daughter was moved from home to a nursing facility due to serious illness. Sellers notes that the body of work was created as an expressive means to comfort herself and to challenge our concept of home. The house imagery in this piece features intersecting lines placed intuitively without strict adherence to absolute precision. Sellers states that "life would be so awful is we were all the same, lined up in careful rows, all our edges perfect. Things that are a little different, a little askew, have more personality."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Raymond School District.
