About the Artwork
Fish Shrine: Duet is a wood and found object sculpture created by artist Mary Molyneaux. It is part of a series of constructions inspired by folk art, furniture, and sacred objects. In this piece, she collaged two images of fish onto a constructed wood box to evoke a small shrine.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Mukilteo School District.
About the Artist
Mary Molyneaux is a Seattle-based artist. She works in a variety of media to produce paintings, collages, and sculpture. Born in Missouri, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in art and education from Central Missouri State University. She later studied at the University of Tennessee and the Oregon School of Arts and Crafts. She has taught at the Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle, among other institutions.
