About the Artwork
Artist Patrick Anderson created Forbidden Peak as part of his investigation into gray-scale pastel compositions. This piece depicts the rich contrasts between snow, sky, and shadow found in the Cascade Mountains of Washington state. It was inspired by the artist's experience hiking in the Pacific Northwest as a young man, as well as by a book of photographs of the North Cascades by Tom Miller.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Vashon Island School District.
