James Van Patten
American (born 1939, died 2025)
James Van Patten (1939-2025) created hyper-realistic paintings that explore and discover the natural landscapes that surround us.
Van Patten was a native of Seattle, Western Washington. He graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts degree (1965) in art education and painting and a Master of Fine Arts degree (1968). Throughout the 1970s, he taught painting and art history at the university level in Washington and Oregon. He later moved east and was a Professor of Painting at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, teaching their only course in acrylic painting for over twenty years. His art is in collections throughout the U.S. and Europe.
