About the Artwork

Color it Red is part of artist Peggy Gruen's series of artworks that combine nature and technology. Gruen melds vibrantly colored photographs of natural objects such as shells, flowers, and foliage with a digitally-generated, abstract background. She chose each object based on its bold shape and unique form.

Peggy Gruen created this series for Multiples: The Sciences and Art (1991), an exhibition of ten micro-collections commissioned to tour Washington State school districts. The micro-collections offer different perspectives of ten artists exploring ideas and issues related to science. They also ask students to re-consider assumed and widely accepted aspects of science.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Quillayute Valley School District.
