About the Artwork

Glacial Rhythms by Pamela Harlow is an enamel mural comprised of 53 sections. She created the imagery by firing painted enamel onto copper sheets in a kiln. Describing the ideas and imagery in this piece, Harlow notes, "Year by year, snow gathers. Small annual increments knit together, building depth, until snow fuses into ice and the sheet of ice begins to flow. As it moves, transverse crevasses open, offering ragged glimpses into blue depths, the heart of the glacier."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Military Department.

About the Artist

Pamela Harlow is a Seattle-based sculptor specializing in enamel artworks and jewelry.
Harlow received a Bachelor of Science degree in zoology from the University of Wisconsin in Madison in 1972. She then studied in Mexico at El Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in metal design from the University of Washington in Seattle in 1977. She has taught jewelry and enamel art at the Factory of Visual Arts in Seattle, and Bellevue Art Museum School, among other institutions.
