About the Artwork
Anchor is a painting by artist Denise Anderson. Featuring an abstracted background, she created the composition by overlapping translucent layers of paint and wax. The central image of the anchor, which contains hints of a human figure, symbolizes our need for stability and connection. She notes, “An anchor provides the security that prevents loss or aimless drifting. The rope festoons the anchor in a way that evokes a sense of jubilation, a celebration of some sort. My hope is that the viewer will make associations relevant to themselves and their lives.”
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Aberdeen School District.
