About the Artwork
Precipitous Journey is part of artist Jo Fyfe's body of work inspired by Native American spirituality. This piece features a female figure with a cradled baby facing toward an abstract horizon. Fyfe notes that the imagery and composition illustrate her subject's "unbound thankfulness, recognition of her place in the universe, and reverence for all of the creator's life forces that surround and support her."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Sunnyside School District.
About the Artist
Jo Fyfe explores color, texture, and narrative using a variety of materials and found objects.
Born in Omak, Northeastern Washington, non-Native artist Jo Fyfe's artworks are influenced by the heritage of Native American cultures of the interior Pacific Northwest. She earned a Master in Fine Arts degree from Washington State University in Pullman, Eastern Washington, and taught art for many years at Spokane Falls Community College. She is based in Spokane, Eastern Washington.
