About the Artwork

Untitled (Feathers) is a hand-colored photograph by artist Connie Ritchie. She created the still life composition using multiple exposures. She notes, “First I set up the scene. Then I place small pieces of paper in the scene. While I make several short exposures, I remove the paper, leaving some in longer than others. This creates different densities on the film creating different intensities of detail in the photograph.”

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Office of the Washington State Auditor.

About the Artist

Northwest artist Connie Ritchie creates hand-painted, still-life photographs that explore themes of life and death, identity, and nature. She received an Associate of Applied Science degree in Commercial Photography from Seattle Central College.
