About the Artwork
Orca Mobile is part of a series of mobile sculptures created by artist Terry Furchgott. It relates to 'Raven Spirit Mobile', a five-piece mobile installed in the library at Illahee Elementary. She created these artworks as a tribute to the school’s values and the area’s Native American heritage and history. A mobile is a sculpture that hangs balanced in the air with each part moving freely. This sculpture features an Orca with children swimming beside it and riding on its back. It symbolizes adventure, the importance of caring for all living things, and of celebrating ourselves. The artist notes, “This great and powerful mammal of the sea, held in awe and respect by Native Americans, is a fitting symbol for the Main Reception Desk Area for the school where it will greet all who enter.”
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Evergreen School District.
