About the Artwork

Migration I is an intricate, site-specific installation by artist team Ralph Helmick and Stuart Schechter. It is comprised of a vast, translucent array of suspended, resin bird sculptures spiraling from a central point on the ceiling of the corrections center's visitation area. Birds that are native to the area of Stafford Creek on the Pacific Ocean are shown in various stages of flight.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Department of Corrections.

About the Artist

Artists Ralph Helmick and Stuart Schechter worked collaboratively to create sculptures and installations for public spaces between 1993 and 2008.
