About the Artwork
Artist Cork Marcheschi's Hoquiam Beacon was inspired by bioluminescent jellyfish, among other things. These glowing jellyfish can be found in nearby Grays Harbor, on the Pacific Coast. Bioluminescence is the production and release of light by a living organism, such as a jellyfish, mushroom, or firefly.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with City of Hoquiam.
