About the Artwork

Artist Cork Marcheschi's Hoquiam Beacon was inspired by bioluminescent jellyfish, among other things. These glowing jellyfish can be found in nearby Grays Harbor, on the Pacific Coast. Bioluminescence is the production and release of light by a living organism, such as a jellyfish, mushroom, or firefly.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with City of Hoquiam.

About the Artist

California-based artist Cork Marcheschi creates sculptures and installations for public spaces. He works in a variety of mediums to respond to each site. His use of light references our human response to nature.
Marcheschi attended California State College in Hayward. He received a Master of Fine Arts degree in sculpture at California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland.
