About the Artwork
Artist Susan Brandeis' elaborate textile construction Sweet Singing in the Fire is part of a series that evoke the layered structures seen in nature, such as a forest floor, or sediment in the ocean. It was created by sewing together and assembling screen printed fabrics and flexible materials. The artist describes her work as a celebration of "the elements of nature which ultimately lead to ecological harmony: growth and decay, order and chaos, agitation and tranquility, the ordinary and the sublime."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Edmonds School District.
