About the Artwork

White Tulips is a still-life painting by artist Mindi Katzman. She combined pastels with encaustic paints, made from melted beeswax with colored pigment. She added the encaustic wax onto the surface in layers to create texture, and a matte finish. She notes, “In my work I am motivated by the desire to capture the magic and mystery of image making - of engaging the viewer, and myself, by turning an empty surface into another world – with use of line, nuance of color, shape and form.”

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Soap Lake School District.
