Untitled Artworks

What do a 10-foot-tall steel sculpture, a wooly tapestry, an abstract painting, and a span of stained-glass windows all have in common? They are all artworks with “Untitled” as their title (and they are all part of Washington’s State Art Collection).

And why does an artist choose to use “Untitled”? The artist might be trying to let the viewer interpret the artwork in their own way. Something as simple as a title gives us ideas about what we are supposed to be seeing or interpreting in the artwork.
