Year of the Horse: Happy Chinese Lunar New Year (2026)

In celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year (February 17, 2026) – the Year of the Horse – we are pleased to present a selection of artworks in the State Art Collection that feature horses.

People born under the Horse sign are outgoing, confident, agreeable, and responsible, but they also dislike being controlled by others and are impatient. They love physical and mental work. They are natural leaders, but they can get bored easily.

Stories of the Chinese Zodiac tell that the Jade Emperor held a race. The Horse was a favorite to win, but it was distracted by the fans’ attention and started the race late, behind the other animals. Horse is the seventh animal in the Chinese Zodiac – behind Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, and Snake, but ahead of Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.

In Chinese astrology, each year is related to a Chinese zodiac animal according to a 12-year cycle. Those who were born in the years 2026, 2014, 2002, 1990, 1978, 1966, 1954, 1942, and 1930 are known as Horses.

Happy Year of the Horse!
