A small, rural community 45 miles north of Spokane has become Washington’s second Certified Creative District. Chewelah is known as a hub for several cultural events, recreational activities and historical points of interest. With over 111 days of events throughout the year, Chewelah truly is “Your Place for all Seasons.”
The fifteen collaborative partners, representing non-profits, businesses, government entities and a cross section of individuals from the community, were able to organize their ideas and resources to jointly apply for the Creative District Certification. The vision for the Chewelah Creative District is to continue to focus on creating an enriching cultural environment for local citizens, to support and encourage continual growth and sustainability of area businesses and to provide an engaging experience for all visitors. The Chewelah Creative District includes a microbrewery, eateries, a bakery, a performing arts center, a gallery, a large park with a creek running through it, a museum, a Historical Walk and award-winning Farmer’s Market in addition to a variety of shopping choices.
