ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Idem I is a mixed media abstract painting by artist Susan Salo Deutchman. She created the composition by first painting a landscape. She then cut the landscape painting apart and collaged the pieces together. She describes the piece as "composed in order to move your responses from the familiar to the unfamiliar, allowing you to wonder about the unexplained forces which govern life."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Employment Security.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Idaho-based artist Susan Salo Deutchman creates vibrant abstract painitngs.
Salo Deutchman is professor emerita of art at Washington State University in Pullman, Eastern Washington, where she began teaching in 1969. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. She received a Master of Science degree from the University of Oregon in Eugene and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Idaho in Moscow.
