ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Child and Mother is a colorful painting by artist Jackie Hunsaker that depicts two overlapping abstracted figures. The artist composed this piece after her son was deployed for military service in Iraq, and is meant to symbolize protection. Pondering questions of birth and death, the artist asks the viewer to "notice how the woman's head is in the sky. She, too, is a dreamer."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Bethel School District.
