This abstract sculpture by artist Mark Calderon explores texture, space, and material. Created from cement, the surface features subtle variations in color. Five openings expose hidden internal objects. The composition references fossils and natural forms.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Clark College.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Seattle-based artist Mark Calderon creates abstract and conceptual sculptures, installations, prints, and works on paper. He uses his art to explore nature, death, religion, and ancient cultures and societies. Many of his artwroks have an "ancient look" to them.
Calderon earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in printmaking from San Jose State University in California.
