Airstream International, 1978
Kirk Lybecker
(American, born 1951)
Location: Eastern Washington University, Cheney
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Artist Kirk Lybecker created Airstream International by layering transparent watercolors using a combination of paintbrush and airbrush. He based the image on a 35 mm slide photograph. It is an example of his interest in man-made, reflective surfaces. He notes, "The reflective nature that I am most impressed by is the brushed metal balanced against the reflection of smooth glass. I was also very interested in what a reflection does when it curves around a surface, much as the surface curves on these bug-like trailers."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Eastern Washington University.
