Levels of the Game, 1980
Vicki Adams
(American, born 1931)
Location: Washington State Arts Commission, Olympia
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Playing with tones and value, artist Vicki Adams created Levels of the Game by etching a zinc plate to different depths. She notes "The imagery is an abstraction of how organic planes that are side-by-side might reflect light and reveal their forms. The forms in nature might be rock faces, hanging icicles, drooping plants, or aerial views of lakes or mountains".
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Riverview School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Vicki Adams is a print- and paper-maker whose artwork reflects her interest in nature, texture, and environments. As an art student, she experimented with the collagraph technique (printing from a collage) to produce rich color combinations. Her more recent projects involve printing on handmade, hand-dyed paper and shaping them into three-dimensional reliefs and sculpture.
