ABOUT THE ARTWORK

A Port Orchard Myth is a tile frieze created by artist Nina Yankowitz for John Sedgwick Junior High. The tiles feature a collage of images and symbols. Images include human and animal figures, as well as natural and architectural elements. She describes Port Orchard as "a place between water and sky." She asks the viewer to think of the horizontal format as a strip of film. She notes, "These are the still images or characters and the script is up to you."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with South Kitsap School District.
