ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Ascension is part of a body of paintings by artist Alison Johnston inspired by her rural home on San Juan Island. She notes, "I live in the country on an island amidst a puzzle of land and water where changing landscapes, strong color and interlocking forms combine to create visual tension and drama in my work.
