ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Salmon VII is part of artist Bruce Amstutz's series of charcoal drawings that depict the movement of salmon and the interplay of light and darkness through water. Combining charcoal with gestural strokes of Japanese sumi ink, in this piece Amstutz notes "I mean to find a connection between the process of drawing itself and the mystery of bright salmon moving through dark waters."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Shoreline Community College.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Artist Bruce Amstutz creates gestural landscape and figurative works on paper in an expressive style. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees in drawing and painting from the University of Washington in Seattle. He taught art at Shoreline Community College for many years.
