Chongoing river view, 1984
Mark Abrahamson
(American, born 1944)
Location: Ridgetop Middle School, Silverdale
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Chongoing river view is part of artist Mark Abrahamson's portfolio of photographs taken in the Peoples Republic of China over the course of a decade, and seeks to capture China's complex and evolving history and culture. The composition of this photograph is punctuated by a rich red color found on the clothesline. Abrahamson notes that he found "color as one means to measure change. As China becomes more modern, color is more prevalent. I key on the color red... it has long term religious significance, it is important politically, and it is popular with young people."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Central Kitsap School District.
