ABOUT THE ARTIST

Gerald (Jerry) Allen's career began as a studio artist. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in sculpture from the University of Puget Sound, in Tacoma, Western Washington. He pursued graduate studies in studio art and public administration at the University of Washington in Seattle.

Allen is currently a California-based cultural planner with expertise directing local arts agencies. He served as the Visual Arts Coordinator and Executive Director of the King County Arts Commission in the 1970s. He went on to serve as Director of Cultural Affairs in Dallas, Texas, and San Jose, California. He was the founding Director of the Yerba Buena Center of the Arts in San Francisco, California.
