A Five Part Artwork: Tech Totem Garden, 1998
Karen Guzak
(American, born 1939)
Location: South Seattle College, Seattle
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Part one of artist Karen Guzak's five-part installation at South Seattle College, 'Tech Totem Garden' was fabricated with help from student welders. This part of the artwork consists of twenty-one pieces, crafted with fine metals salvaged from the technical skills programs at the college. Guzak's five-part installation celebrates technology and the value of work. It is interactive in nature as students will walk through and around the artwork parts, and it is unified by the motif of circles and arcs in the artwork as well as in the students' paths around it.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with South Seattle Community College.
