ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Creation is the first of artist Nan Johnson's body of three-dimensional paintings. This piece was created to explore concepts of growth through expressive line, movement, and color. Johnson composed this piece by painting both sides of her paper before spontaneously folding, stapling, cutting, and repainting to achieve the final form.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Battle Ground School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Seattle-based artist Nan Johnson creates abstract and narrative paintings. She studied art at Western Washington University in Bellingham (Northwestern Washington), the Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle, and the University of Washington in Seattle.
