The Reading, 1990
Luis Serrano
(Ecuadorian, born 1955)
Location: Big Bend Community College, Moses Lake
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The Reading is a painting by artist Luis Serrano, who notes that the piece conceptually explores and depicts the "joy and responsibility of interpreting the written language. Through the reading act we discover links to the past, formulas for thinking and poetic descriptions which solidify our existence." Serrano composed this piece with overlapping figures and allegorical symbols, asking the viewer to take a moment and "read" the painting.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Big Bend Community College.
