ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Crosscut is a welded bronze sculpture created by artist Gerard Tsutakawa. The sculpture, composed to resemble a cross section of a tree, explores our forestry heritage and history. The center "viewfinder" acts as a link between past and present, allowing viewers to "look through our past to the positive change that is the key to the future."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Centralia College.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Pacific Northwest artist Gerard Tsutakawa creates abstract and figurative sculptures for public spaces. He apprenticed for his father, celebrated sculptor George Tsutakawa, and notes that his designs are a "confluence of cultures and traditions of the Pacific Rim."
