ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Artist Manya Shapiro visited Japan in 1989 to learn textile arts, where she created the indigo-dyed handmade papers used in this artwork. Drawing from her interest in the Japanese style of package wrapping, and composed in reference to the art of quilting, Indigo seeks to honor both Japanese and American textile traditions.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Renton School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
