ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The Travelers is a painting by artist Stephen Dale Edwards. The composition features both abstract and figurative imagery. He layered images of planets, hands, human and animal figures over textural areas of rich color. Together the composition forms a dream-like narrative. The symbolism of this artwork is open to your interpretation.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Bainbridge Island School District.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Northwest artist Stephen Dale Edwards creates paintings and figurative sculptures in glass, wood, and metal. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the California College of Arta and Crafts in Oakland, and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa. He studied glassblowing at the Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle and Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, Northwestern Washington.
