ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Out in the Pasture is part of a body of paintings by artist Alison Johnston inspired by her rural home on San Juan Island. This whimsical piece depicts the artist’s children with their family horse and an imagined pony. She describes her paintings as “pieces of reality collected and rearranged from the immense visual and spiritual diary of life.”
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Newport School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Painter Alison Johnston creates still life, landscape and narrative paintings inspired by the northwest environment and her travels abroad.
Johnston was born in Massachusetts and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Cornish Institute in Seattle in 1981. She is based on San Juan Island, in North Puget Sound, Western Washington.
