Thinking into the Sky, 1990
Bill Brewer
(American, born 1955)
Location: Washington State Arts Commission, SeaTac
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Artist Bill Brewer’s painting Thinking into the Sky is about the importance of dreaming and contemplation. The composition features two figures gazing up at the sky. He notes, “I believe it is good to stop and contemplate what you are doing and what you want your life to be about. The creating of a vision for one's life does not automatically come into existence. We need to remember over and over again to look at our lives and guide it in the direction we want to be going.”
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Highline School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Oregon-based artist Bill Brewer creates stylized, figurative paintings. Speaking about his process, Brewer notes that "sometimes the paint leads...the color leads...the form leads. It's a conversation between the artist and art work. Painting, sculpture, doing art is a process of discovery."
