ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Futuras Mariposas by Nico Inzerella is a multi-part mural that celebrates the students of Pioneer Elementary School in Auburn, Western Washington. Images of the students and several small butterflies represent their cultures, lives, and friendships, conveying inclusion, bonding, and happiness. The mural highlights student growth and encourages them to spread their wings to a bright future.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Auburn School District.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Nico Inzerella combines collaging, photography, fine art, and graphic art. He notes, "Preserving my family's culture is important to me and I do this through my art." He is a fourth-generation Mexican American artist. He has lived and traveled extensively throughout Mexico, Central America, and South America taking thousands of photos that he uses in his art.

Inzerella was born in California and grew up in Seattle. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in fine arts from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Northwestern Washington. He also studied graphic art at North Seattle College.
