Controllers of Their Destiny, 2023
Daniel Galvez
(Mexican American, born 1953)
Location: Shelton High School, Shelton
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Controllers of Their Destiny by Daniel Galvez is an homage to Diego Rivera's 1934 "Man at the Crossroads" fresco painting about the times and events of the early mid-twentieth century. Galvez reimagines it to focus on the students of today and the 21st century challenges they face as they prepare for their futures. Two teenaged students face you in the center with determined expressions on their faces. They are surrounded by images of Washington State's beauty, climate change, the covid pandemic, cultural icons and traditions, Native imagery, as well as students hard at work with their studies.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Shelton School District.
