(Mexican American, born 1953)

Location: White Pass Junior-Senior High School, Randle

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Legacy is a five panel mural by artist Daniel Galvez. Each panel features images that reflect a shared history and relationship to the land for the residents in Randle, Washington. A portrait of Mary Kiona of the Cowlitz tribe, who lived over 100 years, honors the legacy of Native Americans in the area. Other scenes depict fishing, farming, industry, and outdoor activities. The artist notes, "Inspired by the grandeur of the surrounding Cascade Mountains, my intent in Legacy is to express the strength of pioneer spirit and love of the land that lives on in the interplay of the natural setting with the experience of life for generations who have made their home in the Big Bottom Valley."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with White Pass School District.
