A World Beyond, 2000

Brad Rude
(American, born 1964)

Location: Washington State Arts Commission, Pullman

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Sculptor Brad Rude's A World Beyond was inspired by the idea of role reversals. The artist placed the mule on top of its wagon, instead of being pulled behind it. The mule figure is also decorated it with images that suggest memories, desires, fears, and dreams—maybe these images were sparked by the mule’s decision to climb up on the wagon.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Washington State University.
