ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Solitaire (Pt. Townsend, WA) is part of artist Michael Lindenmeyer's "Boxcar Series." These artworks express a romantic nostalgia for the railroad era in the Pacific Northwest. The setting for this piece is based on an old railroad loading dock south of downtown Port Townsend, in northwest Washington. He notes, "In years of prowling around railyards up and down the coast with my sketchbook, I have not seen another wooden boxcar, so it seems it was just something meant for me on that particular day. I painted it the way it was presented: alone, stranded by the sound with a view from Mount Baker to the Olympics."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Highline School District.
