Drape 1977, 1977

Sally Haley
(American, born 1908, died 2007)

Location: Washington State Arts Commission, Olympia

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Drape 1977 is a simple and elegant painting by artist Sally Haley. The way artists paint draped fabric and clothing has a long legacy in the history of painting. Haley captured the drape of this clean white cloth with realism and precision. The shadows of the draped fabric contrast boldly against the flat gray background, and seems almost to float. This contrast plays with our understanding of space and reality.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Department of Corrections.
