(American, born 1940, died 1999)

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Artist John Fudge's painting The Persistence of Silly is inspired by Salvador Dali's surreal painting "The Persistence of Memory," known for its imagery of a pocket watch melting over the edge of a wall. Using this visual reference, Fudge explores the symbolism of a deflated "Have A Nice Day" smiley face.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Kent School District.
