ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Futz the Great is a still-life painting by artist Fred Sodt that explores surrealistic imagery while playing with space, shadow and proportion. Arranging a watermelon and a small toy biplane, Sodt's painting is a realistic depiction of objects he observed in his studio, while the subjects play with the viewer's imagination and sense of reality.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with White River School District.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Bellingham, Washington-based artist Fred Sodt creates realistic still-life paintings.

Sodt received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Washington University in Bellingham (Northwestern Washington) and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Central Washington University in Ellensburg. He has taught art at Skagit Valley College, Whatcom Community College, and other institutions around Washington State.
