Alchemy Under Glass, 1979
Michael Fajans
(American, born 1947, died 2006)
Location: Washington State Arts Commission, Olympia
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
'Alchemy under Glass' is a mural by artist Michael Fajans. The realistic imagery shows assorted flasks and tubes in front of the gloved hands, belt, and dark silhouette of a person. It suggests a chemistry experiment. It is realistic but its unusual perspective and framing also requires us to look closely and carefully.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Sumner School District.
