Deep Currents, 1998
Stephen Yates
(American, born 1952)
Location: The Evergreen State College, Olympia
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Artist Stephen Yates created Deep Currents as part of a continued artistic exploration into movement and light. The energetic, layered brush strokes suggest traveling elements and currents moving at different speeds and depths through water. Yates notes that many water images used in his paintings are inspired by his time living on Oak Bay, located on Puget Sound.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with The Evergreen State College.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Artist Stephen Yates creates paintings with bold, expressive strokes and abstract imagery.
