ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Artist Nan Johnson created Eek! A Snake Horse! with the idea to "weave a story around spontaneous brush strokes." She first painted the bold central figure in green, then painted the two red figures on either side to balance the composition. She notes, "Standing back looking at the three figures, I decided the one in the center looked like a cross between a snake and a horse, and that the red figures could be two bird-like figures fleeing from this snake-horse. I started laughing and screamed Eek! A Snake Horse! So the story was set."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Yakima School District.
